A previous project was to design and manufacture replacement wing spars for a WWII Fieseler Storch German observation aircraft using original factory drawings and modern extrusion stock as a starting point.

Four spars per wing form the corners of a box-beam spar with D-Box formed by adding the wrap-around leading edge.  From French factory drawings, CAD models of the eight unique tapered spars were made and modern drawings produced.

Ultimately,  due to cost, the constant taper from mid-span to both tips was eliminated to get the machining costs down from $72k to $3500 using a technique called continuous milling.  The small added weight was worth the trade-off!

The wings are currently being reconstructed locally using the new spars. Pictures of the progress are to be added here soon.

If you need a part reproduced for your vintage or classic car or motorcycle, we can help with design, reverse engineering and manufacturing.  We can develop CAD models and drawings, animations for your advertising.
